So, my friends came over to Melaka and we had a food hunt. Besides for the must-visit A Famosa, the Stadhuys and countless of museums (Melaka has over 500 museums!), all left in Melaka is the FOOD! We did not manage to eat all of the must-eat-in-melaka but we did some of the greatest !
First, we had the nyonya laksa, mee rebus and baba cendol Donald & Lily. We ordered the famous Mee Siam at first but we were late for it.
Baba Cendol |
This is the nyonya cendol. You can see the jelly, the sago, shaved ice topped with coconut milk and the very fragrant local coconut sugar!(Gula Melaka). It is perfect for the hot weather in this tropical country !
Nyonya Laksa |
This is the nyonya laksa which is only available in Melaka ! The laksa is best served with mee hoon (rice noodles), some sliced fish cakes, eggs, fishballs, fresh clams and the more-than-10-herbs-and-spices gravy!!
If you would like to try the extra hot version of nyonya laksa, just add some of their homemade sambal !!
Mee Rebus |
Donald & Lilys serves other baba and nyonya food like pongteh chicken, Mee Siam and many other mouth-watering delicacies !!

Then, we moved on to satay. I found out that pork satay is not that common in Malaysia (except for Melaka and Pulau Pinang). So, I brought my friends to try the pork satay.
Pork satay with the pineapple-peanut sauce |
The pork satay has a vast difference with that you have in the Malay satay stall. It is heavily marinated, with a dice of pork lard in the middle, grilled to perfection ! Together with their special pineapple-peanut sauce, this would make a paradise in your mouth !! Unlike the conventional peanut sauce, the pineapple-peanut sauce taste with a zest of the sour because of the pineapple. It does, indeed, enhance the flavour and give it a bit of refreshness!
Apart from that, Xiang Ji Satay House alse serves chicken satay, pork liver satay and pork intestines satay!!
Xiang Ji Satay House:
50, Jalan Portuguese,
Melaka.
The exact address is unclear but it is very near to Jonker street (within walking distance) ! You could check out this map ! Xiang Ji Satay House is located just next to Ringo's Foyer Guest House.
Before dinner, we went to Klebang to have the very famous Klebang coconut shake !! Klebang Coconut shake is the most famous coconut shake in Melaka !
Coconut Shake Special |
Klebang Coconut Shake is made of fresh coconut juice, blended with ice and coconut meat ! Some are topped with a scoope of vanilla ice-cream, making it a perfect drinks on a beach ! You could dine-in or take away.

One would not been to Melaka if you have not try the Sate Celup ! So, we went to Ban Lee Siang Sate Celup in Jalan Ong Kim Wee.
Sate celup adapts the concept of steamboat, where you choose the ingredients and immerse them into a pot of hot and spicy peanut sauce. You get to choose from over 20 types of ingredients like fishballs, vegetables, meats, seafoods and so on. All of them come in sticks and the price is based on how many sticks you have taken (RM0.70 per stick).
Do them look mouth-watering ? It is the must-eat in Melaka !!!

75300 Melaka.

Business hour:
Daily: 5.00 p.m. - 12.00 a.m.
Before going back, we had our final dessert of the day - Durian puffs in Jonker walk !
These puffs are freshly baked daily. The shopkeeper insists it to be one-bite which means the rich durian cream would 'explode' in your mouth, creating a mouthful of durian lava ! If you are not a durian lover, you could try their yogurt puff as well. You could easily locate this shop (named Taste Better) in Jonker Street.
So, that ends our food hunt in Melaka. To be mentioned, there are alot more to try in Melaka like the chicken rice ball, baba and nyonya dining, asam laksa and so on! So I hope I could get into another food hunt and update more about food in Melaka !
